Last Saturday's special report "Gospel & Glitz" in the straits times was a fascinating piece to read. After reading the whole report, I got the impression that the report was skewed towards casting a negative light on Christians attending a megachurch. To me personally, there are several things mentioned in the report that provide plenty of food for thought:
1. Is a megachurch Christian a church shopper, seeking what he can get out of attending the church and only interested in living the good life now? Am I one of them?
2. Megachurch pastors supposedly relying more on MBAs than their bible school education to lead the church because the modern pastor is a CEO. Are we a business organization or a church?
3. A certain megachurch honoring their "winners" on stage to celebrate success because success beget success. Does God measure success the same way?
We are called to be like Christ; is this how Jesus would have done? Have the world's philosphy and ways of doing things crept into the church? Has the church became too savvy and commercialized for its own good?
