Christian with an agenda?

During the myhope video screening at our neighbour's place last dec, one of the invited neighbour made this observation: a lot of Christians sharing with to him always have a personal testimony of God doing something in their lives such as healing, financial provision, a character change etc. He believed they are all true.

Praise the Lord for the great works in people's lives. We personally have many testimonies of God's wonderful blessings too.

On that occasion, one remark he made caught my attention; he wondered if Christians believe in God because of what God has done and are doing for them.

I also came across a member of a big church here quoting her pastor saying
Quote
"Before you got on the boat, its love love love. Called Love Boat. After you go to church, the rules come in. You cannot do this, you HAVE to do that...."
Unquote

That prompts the following questions: Are we Christians with an agenda? Is Jesus Lord only when we receive His blessings and don't have to live a 'restricted' life? Is our personal faith a conditional one?
